Takeover Tuesday – Watermelon Agua Fresca

 

This Takeover Tuesday is all about proper hydration!  In the summer, the key to keep your skin in good condition is all about SPF and hydration.  There has already been some great reviews concerning SPF skin care products so I’m going to give you a recipe for an easy…and delicious…drink to keep your body and, therefore your skin, hydrated.

This is a nice and simple recipe for watermelon agua fresca: gather a seedless watermelon, two limes, some water, a blender, a pitcher, and a fine mesh sieve.

First, cut the watermelon into chunks, about six cups worth, to fill a blender. Purée until smooth.

If you don’t like any pulp, pour the juice through the sieve into the pitcher.  Depending on the size of your sieve, you might need to use a spoon to help the juice get through the sieve and empty the sieve a few times.  If you don’t mind some pulp, you can skip the sieve step.

Add cold water to taste.  I use approximately three quarters of a cup of water, but you can add a little more water if you want a lighter melon flavor.

Next, cut your limes in half and squeeze the juice from the them…you can use a hand held juicer if you have one.  I use approximately three tablespoons.  The lime helps cut a bit of the sweetness, so you can add more or less depending on your personal taste.

Options: Try other melons in place of watermelon, like cantaloupe or honeydew, or try freezing it for delicious, nutritious, and all natural ice pops!  All options are perfect to hydrate your body during the hot days of summer!
